We are an approved Pennsylvania Department of Education Act 48 provider and offer Pennsylvania State Board approved continuing education credits for licensed social workers, marriage and family therapists and professional counselors. Professional Roundtable Trainings

The Center for Loss and Bereavement is committed to providing quality training opportunities for professionals interested in expanding their understanding of grief and loss issues.  Our trainings are designed for small groups and are interactive and experiential in nature to provide an optimal environment for learning.  All of our trainings are appropriate for the needs of hospice and other health care professionals, school personnel, chaplains and clergy, as well as other professionals who work with people experiencing loss and grief. 

 Our current schedule of trainings is listed below.  We are constantly developing new roundtables and are available to design a training to meet the needs of specific groups.

Cost is $60.00 per training.   Those interested in registering for 2 trainings will receive a $10.00 discount ($110.00 for both).  Payment is due with your registration.  Since the number of participants is limited be sure to call to inquire about space availability.

  What’s In, What’s Out: Understanding the Grieving Process

October 2010 (TBA), 9:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

 This workshop is designed to explore current perspectives on the grief process.  It will focus on new insights and attitudes regarding models of grief that have emerged in the field of death and dying.  Participants will be able to identify how the experience of grief is viewed in the context of models such as:  dual process, attachment theory, continuing bonds and narrative styles of grief work.  Cultural and gender of styles of grieving will be introduced and explored.   

Building blocks of Life and Death for the Younger Child

November 2010 (TBA), 9:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

This training is designed for those working with an early childhood population who are interested in learning more about a young child’s processing of death and dying concepts.  It will review the young child’s developmental perspectives on life and living, death and dying, and their experiences in both learning/childcare environments as well as in the family system.  We will present opportunities to enrich children’s understanding of and ability to cope with death and grief.   Teachable moments, use of curriculum tools, and therapeutic interventions will be discussed. 

 

The ABC’s of Children’s Grief, K-12

 March  2011 (TBA), 9:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

 This training will focus on the experience of school aged children K-12 who are coping with the death of a loved one.  It will explore the grieving process of children including: how children mourn, how their grief differs from that of adults, how grief comes to school and how we can best help bereaved children.  Current theoretical frameworks, case studies and group interaction will be utilized to facilitate understanding of the experience and needs of grieving children and their families.

Upon request, we will work with your organization to develop a presentation that will fit your needs.  Topics may include but are not limited to: understanding the grieving process, helping children and teens grieve, help for the holidays, addressing complicated grief, dealing with suicide or homicide.
